About Me

I am Dr. Chris or Dr. Creighton (Why I go by Dr. Creighton) an Instructional Designer at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the Faculty Resource Center where I work with faculty on creative and craft course designs. I currently live in Colorado Springs, CO enjoying the mountain views.

Research Areas: Course Design (multiple pedagogies, assessment, and student-centered designs) and faculty development (CTL data tracking and faculty motivation).

I love teaching, working with students and guiding them in their learning. I try hard to design my courses in ways most closely aligned with how you learn. I help students with reading and taking notes from math books, videos, and lectures using flipped and partially-flipped techniques, encourage engagement through inquiry and active learning group work, and explore with students alternative grading ideas. I believe that students should be a core part course design, so I frequently survey them and make design changes. Students know what is working well for them so should be brought in as partners in their education!

Origin Story

I am originally from suburban Detroit, MI, living in the area through college and during my masters degree. Afterwards, I moved to Indiana to complete my Ph.D. at Purdue University. While I enjoy mathematics research, I have become fond of mathematics and STEM education and studying how graduate students and faculty learn to teach mathematics. You can find more information on my Research (forthcoming) page.

A Human

Besides being a mathematician and educator, I love spending time with my two cats, hiking with my spouse, and enjoying a relaxing game in the evenings. I try to get out and explore nature with frequent hikes in Red Rocks Canyon and Mueller State Park.
